Parent/Carer Survey

Parent and Carer Survey:  January 2023

The questions on our Parent/Carer Survey were taken from the Ofsted website.

  1. My child is happy at this school.

Over 90% of our parents and carers strongly agreed or agreed. This is a reduction of 5% on the June 2021 survey. We are increasing ways of celebrating pupil successes and furthering pupil voice through rewards, celebration assemblies, house competitions, school council meetings, refining lunch time activities as well as supporting wellbeing in school.

  1. My child feels safe at this school.

99% of our parents and carers strongly agreed or agreed. This was the same percentage as June 2021.

  1. The school makes sure its pupils are well behaved.

92% of our parents and carers strongly agreed or agreed with 3% ‘don’t know’ responses. This was the same percentage as June 2021.

  1. My child has been bullied and the school dealt with the bullying quickly and effectively.

The vast majority of parents and carers responded that they hadn’t had to deal with any bullying issues.  On the few occasions where bullying had occurred, most parents and carers strongly agreed or agreed that incidents were dealt with quickly and effectively. 21 responses recorded ‘don’t know’ – it was assumed that in these cases the children of the parents/carers hadn’t been bullied.

  1. The school makes me aware of what my child will learn during the year.

The majority of parents (75%) strongly agreed or agreed, however this was the area identified as where more parents/carers were likely to disagree or answer as ‘don’t know’ (9%).  We therefore will continue to remind parents and carers of the curriculum area of the website once the new website has been launched, continue to use the school newsletter and social media to provide curriculum updates and introduce Curriculum and Assessment Parent/Carer meetings to provide overviews of the year’s learning for each year group from Autumn 2023.  We will also be introducing new Learning Journals, in place of planners, to facilitate the home/school relationship and support academic learning and wellbeing. We will continue to look to provide parents/carers with information of key ways in which learning can be supported at home, including guidance on reading, KS2 revision guides and useful links for each curriculum area on the school website. The result was similar to the June 2021 survey, although there was an increase in parents/carers answering ‘don’t know’.

  1. When I have raised concerns with the school they have been dealt with properly.

The vast majority have not needed to raise concerns with school.  Most parents and carers who have raised concerns feel that they have been dealt with properly.

  1. My child has SEND, and the school gives them the support they need to succeed.

The majority (67%) of parents and carers with pupils who have SEND strongly agreed or agreed with the statement. Four of the 27 responses recorded ‘don’t know’. We will continue to offer termly parent/carer SEN Review Meetings and offer a range of opportunities to maximise attendance.

  1. The school has high expectations for my child.

91% of parents and carers strongly agreed or agreed.  This is an improvement of 3% on the June 2021 survey

  1. My child does well at this school.

88% or parents and carers strongly agreed or agreed.  This is an improvement of 2% on the June 2021 survey.

  1. The school lets me know how my child is doing.

78% of parents and carers strongly agreed or agreed, with a further 6% recording ‘don’t know’.  This marks an improvement of 6% since the June 2021 survey. During this time, we have introduced new assessment and reporting processes and report using the MCAS app. We will continue to remind parents and carers of the assessment area of the website once the new website has been launched, continue to remind parents of the importance of regular engagement with MCAS, continue to use the school newsletter and social media to share successes and introduce Curriculum and Assessment Parent/Carer meetings to provide overviews of the year’s learning for each year group from Autumn 2023. We will also continue to make successes more explicit and tangible through, for example, rewards and House competitions for all. Progress reports will continue to be termly, with two parents’ evenings for year 6 and one for year 7 and for year 8. Based on parental requests, these were virtual this academic year, apart from the year 6 tutor evening. We will continue to seek parental preference each academic year. We are aware from feedback that logging into the MCAS app has been problematic for some parents particularly when passwords have been forgotten. Bromcom, the software providers, are simplifying the log-in processes and this will be rolled out to parents as soon as the update is available.

  1. There is a range of subjects available to my child at this school.

95% of parents and carers strongly agreed or agreed. This was an increase of 1% on the June 2021 survey.  As referenced in our website, we continue to offer a rich and ambitious curriculum, following a secondary model of education. This means that year 6 pupils spend more curriculum time studying foundation subjects than they would in a primary school.

  1. My child can take part in clubs and activities at this school.

The majority of parents and carers strongly agreed or agreed – 93% This was a significant increase on the June 2021 survey, where clubs and trips were restricted due to COVID. We have also since regularly shared clubs and news about successes more readily through the school newsletter and social media.

  1. The school supports my child’s wider personal development.

77% of parents and carers strongly agreed or agreed.  We are mindful that 12% of parents and carers responses were ‘don’t know’ and will launch a new Personal Development section of the website to provide a clearer overview of all the school offers, combined with our continued use of social media and the termly school newsletter.

  1. I would recommend this school to another parent.

95% of our parents and carers strongly agreed or agreed, an increase of 1% on the June 2021 survey.

Parentview

Parentview was introduced by the Government for parents to give their views about their child’s school.  It is a short survey that covers a range of issues important to parents.  Once there are sufficient results, the overall findings are visible although individual responses are not.

Many parents who are happy with their child’s school use Parent View to share their satisfaction or to show their support for the school.  We are drawing Parent View to your attention, because this is the way your voice will be heard by Ofsted.

If you would like to raise an issue about BHA, please don't hesitate to contact the school.

Thank you for your support.
