Worcestershire Rugby u13' State School Cup winners

On Wednesday 10th April Bredon Hill competed in the final against a very strong Alvechurch Middle School. However, to get to this point, Bredon Hill have been involved in this competition over the last 7 months.

16 teams from across Worcestershire were split into 4 groups in which the winners went through to a Cup semi final, 2nd and 3rd place would go through to a Plate quarter final and 4th place would go into a Bowl semi final.

Bredon Hill were in a really competitive group consisting of: Pershore High School, Chase School Malvern and St. John's of Bromsgrove. Bredon Hill rose to the challenge and won all their group games comfortably by a margin of over 50 points in each game.

The semi final match was against Hanley Castle. Hanley Castle regularly produce good rugby teams so Bredon Hill had to be at their best if they were to advance to the final and they did not disappoint. The opposition could not cope with the high tempo Bredon Hill were playing and by half time were leading 45-0. In the second half, Bredon Hill continued to dominate and eventually won 75-15.

Alvechurch had had similar success in the group stages and won their games comfortably but had to work hard for the win in the semi final.

The final was high paced game with some big carries and some huge tackles and it was Alvechurch who made the brightest start. They retained possession effectively and scored within the first 6 minutes. However, Bredon Hill were always a threat when they had the ball and by half time were leading 30-15. In the second half, Alvechurch continued to have lots of possession but Bredon Hill defended heroically and when they managed to get the ball they converted it into tries. The game was really close until the last 15 minutes but Bredon Hill finished really strong to end up winning 55-20. It was a fantastic way to end a really successful season.

In the Plate final, Pershore High School were competing against The De Montfort School and it was Pershore High who became champions with a 45-0 win.

In the Bowl competition St. Johns Middle School, Bromsgrove won against Walkwood Middle School, Redditch.
