Match Report: Bredon Hill Academy V Pates Grammar School

Monday 22nd January 2018

The match took place at Pates Grammar School. The weather conditions were cloudy and windy and very muddy. It took 25 minutes to get there and our team won the toss, captained by Ashley, and we decided to kick.

The match started with Pates scoring 3 early tries.  Bredon were mostly defending and tackling desperately trying to get the ball into our half of the pitch.  There were several scrums due to penalties, taken by Matthew.  The hooker, Ben, was up against a very talented hook.  Max put in some outstanding tackles along with the rest of the team.   To end the first half Pates scored yet another try.

Our coach encouraged us to put in the extra effort and tackles to level out the match.   The match progressed with a ruck forming, the scrum half getting the ball out wide to Max, then passed to Jayden who nearly scored.  Unfortunately, he was tackled 30 cm off the line!  Pates Grammar kept getting more and more tries as we went through the 2nd half.  There were some great tackles and runs by both teams. However, when the final whistle blew Pates had convincingly won by 50:0.

Although we got beaten, we enjoyed our game with Pates and hope that next time we might be able to come home with a victory!  As a team we all played extremely well in very harsh conditions.
