Y7 Catch Up Funding 2015- 2016

 

12 pupils were allocated funding from the Catch Up programme for English (5 of whom also received funding for mathematics) 36 pupils were funded in total for English and mathematics (including the overlaps).

 

How the funding was spent for English:

  • Small group intervention with a focus on specific reading skills .e.g. inference and deduction
  • Emplyoment of an intervention teacher to work with pupils
  • Rapid reading programme.
  • Lexia.
  • TA support in lessons.
  • Resources and materials to support the teaching in the intervention group

 

The effect the expenditure had on the attainment of those for whom it was allocated:

All pupils made progress with the majority of them improving their reading comprehension ages by two years over the course of the year.

How will the funding be spent for the current cohort?

  • The introduction of another teaching group in Y7 making four group in place of three
  • Rapid Reading Programme
  • Lexia
  • Precision Reading
  • TA support in lessons
  • Overlays for reading for targeted pupils
  • Targeted teaching to meet the specific needs of the pupils.

 

Other interventions will be implemented over the year to meet the needs of the target pupils.

 How the funding was spent for mathematics:

  • Small group intervention with a focus on specific mathematical skills.
  •  “Mathematics in the real world” day, involving planning and organising a cake sale for charity.

 

The effect the expenditure had on the attainment of those for whom it was allocated:

  • Out of the 31 pupils, 29 pupils made at least expected progress from the KS2 mathematics paper to the end of year 7 GL Assessment.
  • 23 pupils made more than expected progress.
  • Individual pupil’s confidence in mathematics lessons improved.

How will the funding be spent for the current cohort?

  • Small group intervention focusing on other specific areas of mathematics.
  • “Mathematics in the real world” day, involving planning and organising a cake sale for charity.
  • Other opportunities that become available during the year relevant to mathematics in business.
