The School Garden Project

As part of its 40 years anniversary celebrations in 2005, BHMS worked with landscape designer Guy Redmond, and local artist Paul Adams-Groom, to produce a special garden which provides seating and shade for the pupils at breaks and lunchtimes.
Guy worked with pupils, staff and parents at the end of the spring term.

Pupils and parents created designs based on Native American Culture which were burnt into large planks of sycamore from a local supplier. The designs were then be coloured with special wood dyes. The planks now form part of a large pergola over an attractive seating area in the playground.

A performance space featuring rustic seating and another unusual overhead structure was also constructed. Local businesses and parents have donated plants that have helped put the finishing touches to the project. Later in the year the school are planning to plant trees to act as a windbreak and add further interest.

.....

BHMS have been working with partner schools in Holland, Hungary and Germany as part of the Comenius Project over the last three years. The current theme is the “environment” and all four schools have been looking at ways of improving their grounds.

The school is impressed with the enthusiasm with which this project has been received and would like to express its thanks to all who have helped make it possible.
