Weather Updates

In severe winter circumstances such as snow, floods or power-cuts, it may prove necessary to close the school.

CURRENT SEVERE WEATHER UPDATES - There are no current updates.

Notification of school closure will appear on this page when the school is manned. Should the decision be made to close the school before opening time we will endeavour to alert you in the following ways:

  • update this page by 7.00 am.
  • On the local radio stations
    – Wyvern on 102.8FM and BBC Herefordshire & Worcestershire on 104 FM.
  • On the Worcestershire County Council (WCC) website www.worcestershire.gov.uk (see the flashing alert(s) on along top of screen).
  • Through our texting system, but please keep us up-to-date with any changes in mobile phone numbers.

The WCC website will also show any road closures or disruption to local bus or school transport services.

County Transport will endeavour to contact Bredon Hill in advance of any disruption and we will communicate this to parents by text messaging as soon as we are updated.

Should it snow during the school day our policy is as follows:

  • NOT to call the buses early but keep pupils in school.  Parents clearly have the right to collect their children early should they wish.
  • If you request to pick up children other than your own, we must have permission from the other child/children’s parents.
  • If the bus companies deem it fit to travel, pupils will be sent home as normal hence alleviating the chance of pupils arriving at empty homes.
  • Should transport not run then pupils are safest in school even if this involves a lengthy stay.

Text messaging

This occurs when the school office is manned, they will use the "Text messaging" service to text a message to all parents. This text messaging service will text the mobile phone numbers that have been supplied to the school as a contact .

PLEASE ensure that the number(s) you have supplied are up to date.

The decision to close is rare and is taken in consultation with the LEA, the bus companies and the school governors. Inconvenience can result, but the Health & Safety of all members of our school community has to be our first priority.
