Norway Visit (May 2009)

The highlights of the trip to Norway:

Sunday was fantastic! We got up extremely early and met Voksen Skole’s marching band. We paraded around the neighbourhood with the band and ended up at Voksen Skole. Here we joined the teachers and the rest of the school and took the bus down to Oslo centre. This was the start of a long walk around the streets of Oslo, waving flags and singing. We made our way to up to the palace where we waved to the king and queen and price and princess. After the parade, we went to Marit’s house for lunch. It was lovely. That afternoon we paraded around the local area with the marching band and visited another school called “Bogstad Skole”. After a busy day we returned home, had tea then went straight to sleep!

Monday was our first day at Voksen School. In an RE lesson, they were studying the 10 commandments (which we couldn’t understand). We presented some information about our school to two classes who were amazed by our uniform! Then we also told them about some English traditions such as maypole dancing and cheese-rolling which they thought was hilarious! At one o’clock school finished and we went home to Marit’s house with the Dutch girls Romy and Emma and their host Alma. We played with them outside before they went home and we went inside to have tea. Another action-packed day was over and our trip was nearing its end.

On Tuesday we went back to Voksen Skole with our luggage. In the morning we went to a design and technology lesson where we made felt. It was really fun and the end product was fantastic! After that we travelled by train to Oslo city hall to meet the Mayor of Oslo. The mayor gave us some lunch and then we had a tour of the city hall. It was very grand and there were many different murals. When we arrived back at school, it was the end of the day. Marit was very busy that evening so we went back with Katrina (the deputy head) to her house and stayed with her daughter Maria. We stayed there until the teachers arrived back from their meal and we set off for home!

It was a fantastic trip and we were extremely lucky to enjoy such a wonderful experience and make so many new friends!
