Holland Trip (Autumn 2009)

An extract from the pupils' diary…

Day 4:
Today was another day of school. We woke up at 7.30 and  set off for school on the dutch bikes again. Today we had to go and read the receptionist’s books that were well-known and our group did “The Little Fish with No Scales”. Unfortunately, we could not tell what they were saying because it was all in Dutch! This was a real problem! After break we talked to the class about our favourite author, Michael Morpurgo. This was quite scary but the children and teachers enjoyed our presentation.

Each country had to present a lesson about something to do with their country. The countries were: Germany, Hungary, Norway, England and Italy. The Germans did a play about “Hansel and Gretel”, Hungary taught us all a song in Hungarian and in English – the English was easy for us! Norway showed us a famous cartoon about keeping your teeth healthy. Italy told us a story about a mouse and a dog, and we taught everyone a song called “Knick, knack, paddy whack”. The class was led by Miss Dorrell and Miss Smith (with help from Mr Wells.) They were very good!

At 3:10 we went home – what a busy day we had had! For tea we had green mashed potato, sausages, and egg salad. This green mashed potato was nice but not very tempting. The sausages were lovely and we had seconds! Then, at 9:00, we all went outside to play hide and seek. This was our last night in Holland.
